After having defined the basic characteristics of all types of lamps, i. e. the luminous efficiency and the reproduction of colors, the author examines the phenomenon of gas discharge and particularly as concerns halogenides, as well as the principle and technology of iodide lamps. After a reminder of the data concerning their power supply, the author concludes with a summary of their main applications.
