Educators lead increases in 1998 U.S. engineering salaries

In 1998, engineers working in academic institutions commanded the highest average salaries of all engineers working in the United States. According to Salaries of Engineers in Education 1998, an annual survey conducted by the Engineering Workforce Commission (EWC) of the American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES), engineers serving as educators at U.S. academic institutions earned an average of $66,900. Engineers of all degree levels working in industry received slightly less than their academic counterparts, an average of $66,100, according to the EWC's Engineers Salaries: Special Industry Report 1998.
