Principles of robot-based electronics assembly machines are outlined. Robot-based electronic assembly machines require the merging of robot technology and electronics assembly engineering. ROBEAM features have to satisfy specific constraints imposed by the type of packages to insert or place as well as to meet the assembly environment requirements, and must match the market price. Assembly environment impacts on ROBEAM design and price are presented. Management requirements are discussed.
