The NC lathe has been regarded as a tool for the batch processor. Now four axis machines are being introduced at a price that extends the challenge into the domain of the conventional chucking auto. One of these lathes, the NC 300 from Charles Churchill, is detailed in this article. Its developer believes the use of a four axis NC can be economically justified in the lower end of the medium batch area.
