Bearing maintenance is an important aspect of off-highway equipment operation, and premium grade, high-performance lubricants are often specified or recommended by the equipment manufacturers. One type of high-performance bearing grease includes molybdenum disulfide, a bluish-black mineral that protects bearings from pressures that exceed the capacities of conventional hydrocarbons. By acting as a boundary-layer lubricant, the grease can reduce galling and seizing, the most common forms of bearing failure.
