This work studied the effect of using alkaline flooding on ultimate oil recovery and the efficiency of the project on some Iraqi cude oils and core samples. The alkaline substance used was sodium carbonate. Recovery factors of more than 70 per cent of the original oil in place were obtained, and the displacement of the oil by the caustic water was very efficient.
