Factors influencing diffusion of hydrogen during steel forming and heat treatment are discussed, and a method is described for assessing the extent of dehydrogenation. Examples of application of models are discussed with reference to solid-state dehydrogenation, 'slow-cooling' treatments, and the selection and preparation of samples for analysis.
