The new hydrodimerization process for the production of adiponitrile, in which acrylonitrile emulsion is electrolyzed, differs in principle from the conventional process of electro-hydrodimerization of acrylonitrile solution and has many advantages. Flow sheet of adiponitrile production is included and industrial operations are detailed. For a long period of operation, purification of catholyte is important for stable operation. The quality of adiponitrile is quite high due to the mild reaction condition and easy separation of byproduct in the electrolysis of emulsion.
