Quantitative evaluation method for the effect of superplasticizer in self-compacting concrete

An index for the dispersing effect by superplasticizer was proposed as the ratio of the relative flow area to the relative funnel speed of fresh mortar, which is independent of the water powder ratio. It was found that the index has a linear relationship with the superplasticizer dosage. It was also found that the ratio of the minimum superplasticizer dosage for dispersing powder particles to the additional superplasticizer dosage to enhance the unit increment of dispersing effect as constant for each type of superplasticizer irrespective of the type of cement used.
