FM receivers with frequency feedback (FMFB) show a lower fm threshold compared to conventional receiving systems. However, an explicit calculation of an FMFB system is not yet available due to the nonlinear character of the circuit. Several attempts proposing a simplified linear model for the FMFB have been made. The present paper discusses a design procedure proposed by L. H. Enloe, applied to an FMFB circuit with a phase-locked loop (PLL) demodulator. By describing the prototype test circuit, some of the practical design problems of an FMFB-PLL system are shown. Two techniques of threshold measurement are discussed and a practical method for threshold optimization is proposed. By examining the test system, the accuracy of the theoretical design procedure is determined.
