Based on the analysis of fault mechanism especially the magnetic characteristics of turn-to-turn short circuit of rotor windings in turbo generator, the relationship between fault magnitude and loss of effective magnetic field is derived. Considering the saturation of magnetic field, a fault diagnosis mathematical model of turn-to-turn short circuit on turbo generator rotor windings is built. Then the change of the turbo generator corresponding electrical parameter induced by the loss of effective magnetic field is calculated, especially the influence on reactive power output is calculated. The fault criterion of turn-to-turn short circuit is got, which is verified by using the on-site recorded fault data.
