Sulphur content in pig iron is one of the important items in pig iron composition control since it affects the desulphurization cost outside the furnace. The quantitative investigations on sulphur content have been restricted to those based on thermodynamic equilibrium theory. In this study, a mathematical model for sulphur transfer between slag and metal in the blast furnace hearth was developed and the influences of various actions on sulphur content were quantitatively investigated by use of the model.
