The article looks in detail at the current status of casting production in Scotland. It reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the Scottish foundry industry in the light of the current recession. The role of plant modernization, flexibility of production, computer aids application, improved marketing, export opportunities and energy conservation in the survival of the industry is explained.
