In the manufacture of ductile iron, special storage facilities are arranged in the production sequence melting - magnesium treatment - casting in order to insure continuous supply of automatic molding installations. The article describes operational experience acquired with pressure tight holding furnaces with inductive heating, a syphon system, and protective nitrogen atmosphere. This ″median″ prevents an undesired magnesium burnout so that prolonged holding of the melt is possible.
