The authors examined the characteristics of static and fatigue failure of BSt.3sp, 40 and E10 steels after coating them with gaseous nickel of different thickness (5, 10, 20, 50 and 100μm) at different substrate temperatures (130, 160, 180 and 200°C). The results show that, regardless of a small reduction of the mechanical characteristics, the gas-phase coating of steel components with nickel up to 30 μm thick can be regarded as efficient because of its high chemical resistance and simple technology.
