The authors have succeeded in developing a commercial optical disk medium and optical disk memory system. The medium, Te-C thin film, was found to have extremely long-term stability, high sensitivity and good large-scale production possibilities. The Te-C optical disk is a key component in the optical disk memory system 'TOSfile', which has a large capacity for document storage and a low signal error rate. It is to be used as a coded data mass memory disk needing high reliability. It is believed that the Te-C optical disk will make a significant impact on information handling systems as well as on computer systems.
