MEASUREMENT METHODS FOR FUTURE FIBER-OPTIC APPLICATIONS.

Dramatic developments in the field of optical communications would be inconceivable without an effective measurement system to support manufacturing technology, quality assurance in production and systems development. Important future measuring tasks are outlined and state-of-the-art laboratory methods are described. Measurement techniques are clarified with examples: radiation pattern and bandwidth of multimode fibers, time-domain spectra of laser transmitters and principal parameters of single-mode fibers.
