The development of a voluntary corrugated common footprint standard for the North American corrugated industry is discussed. The standard aims at establishing industry compatibility and providing creative designs to satisfy each individual customer's needs. The corrugated common footprint will benefit both growers and shippers by retaining economical, low-cost packaging solutions and recyclability. It also ensures product protection through custom design and offers a wide variety of box designs and material constructions. One of the major limitations of a reusable plastic system is the storage requirements placed on both the user and the vendor.
