A multiple disk, centrifugal blood pump previously designed and analyzed for pressure head, flow rate, and shear rate was modified to include small lexan vanes on the last disk to wash away stagnant zones. In the initial studies of this approach, the washout mechanism successfully eliminated the stagnant zones.
