At Kobe Works, hot metal to be charged to BOF is dephosphorized and desulfurized by flux injection in a newly developed hot metal pretreatment furnace (H furnace). Prior to charging to the furnace, the hot metal is desiliconized in the blast furnace runner. This paper describes the improvement of the reaction efficiency in the process and some metallurgical advantages of the present pretreatment.
