摘要:
As part of a research effort on the quantitative evaluation of nitrogen transport in our waters, the authors deal with one of the substantial nitrogen transformations, with the processes of nitrification and with the methods to determine nitrification. From among the known methods in literature method **1**4C-which is considered as the best in in-situ investigations-was adopted and then modified for water and sediment alike. The method is based on the measurement of biological dark H**1**4CO** minus //3 -assimilation of nitrifying bacteria. Other autotrophic and heterotrophic microorganisms living in natural environments are able to assimilate hydrogen-carbonates. Therefore, a specific nitrifying inhibitor - a 2-chlorine-6 trichlorimetil-piridin (N-Serve) inhibitor - was used to separate a part of the total H**1**4CO** minus //3-assimilation which has been contributed to the nitrifying bacteria. By use of a multiplicating factor of 8. 3, the velocity of nitrification was calculated.
