Investigation of the Kinetics of Interaction Between GOLD and Aqueous Solutions of Bromine and Iodine in the Presence of their Salts.

Using the rotating disk method, the kinetics of reactions between metallic gold and aqueous Br and I solutions was investigated. It is shown that the process takes place under diffusion conditions but is complicated by the formation of poorly soluble films on the reaction surface. To reduce this complication, an excess of halide salts must be present in the solution. Rate constants and experimental energies of activation of the investigated reactions for the calculation of the rates of dissolution are found. The stepwise character of the course of these reactions is shown.
