STUDY ON REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAM-COLUMN JOINTS WITH U-SHAPED BEAM REINFORCEMENTS.

The paper reports on a series of tests on six specimens simulating exterior beam-column joints in a reinforced concrete structure in order to evaluate the capacity of the joints. To evaluate the anchorage capacity of U-shaped beam reinforcement under more realistic conditions, the specimens studied were approximately full-scale models of the beam-column joints. All reinforcements were of yield strength ranging from 3700 to 3900 kg/cm**2. For the test specimens that were proportioned so that the flexural yielding of the beam predominated over other modes of failure, the beam-column joints showed favorable deformation characteristics even in the range of large deformation, if the effective anchorage length was not shorter than 8. 0 times the diameter of the beam reinforcement.
