The effect of the water wettability of solid surfaces on the ebullition behavior of superheated water droplets held on the solid surfaces, i. e. , Pyrex glass, copper 60/40 brass and phenol resin, was experimentally investigated under transient superheated conditions. Considering the experimental results from the view point of nucleation, a dimensionless parameter was introduced, which was largely effective in estimating the influence of the temperature hysteresis of water droplets on the ebullition behavior. An equation is also presented to explain the fraction of droplets remaining without ebullition.
