摘要
Expansion of the range of types available and operating experience with them have made plate-type and spiral heat exchangers suitable for a broad range of applications. An earlier work reported on new developments in heat exchangers from an operational point of view. The present work reports on practical experience gained in the use of plate-type and spiral heat exchangers. Particular attention is devoted to questions of materials and sealing. Information on flow control, the avoidance of fouling, installation and configuration is provided for both types. Advantages and limitations are also discussed. Criteria for use and practical experience have been used to draft a checklist which can be utilized as a guide for selection of the most suitable type of heat exchanger for a particular application. In general, the plate-type heat exchanger is preferred, due to its lower investment costs. Spiral and tube-bundle heat exchangers should be considered only once a review of service criteria has eliminated the plate-type heat exchanger as a reliable solution.
