This paper describes the effects of foundation flexibilities on the dynamic respose of tandem coupled rotor-bearing system of large turbine-generator units. The interactions between the turbine-generaors and foundations are discussed. The total system model consisting of tandem coupled rotor-bearings, low pressure turbine cylinders,. generator frame and various foundations was developed using a large general purpose finite-element computer program. The oil film of the hydro-dynamic bearings in the system was represented by unsymmetric stiffness and damping properties. A brief discussion of the system components model is given. Calculations of dynamic response due to rotor-unbalancing is presented. Results are used to evaluate components reliability.
