ESR spectra of poly (vinyl chloride) irradiated with γ-rays at 77 K were analyzed quantitatively. The spectra of alkyl, allyl, and polyenyl radicals were separated and identified. The effects of radiation dose and heating temperature on macroradical concentrations were studied. It was shown that γ-chloroalkyl and allyl radicals formed at 77 K converted to polyenyl radicals by chain dehydrochlorination of poly(vinyl chloride). The possibility of formation of Cl2- radical ions upon post-irradiation heating of the sample from 120 to 200 K is discussed. © 1998 MAHK Hayka/Interperiodica Publishing.
