CHANGES IN THE PRODUCTION AND SUPPLY OF GAS.

Throughout this century the United Kingdom will continue to enjoy a substantial supply of indigenous natural gas. The broad picture of supply from offshore wells and transmission to final consumer will continue unchanged. Developments will take place in gas storage methods for meeting seasonal and diurnal peak demands, and additional facilities will be needed to accommodate new natural gases of differing compositions into the existing distribution system. The developments will include low temperature techniques and microprocessor control systems. This paper reviews the developments that are expected in the United Kingdom natural gas industry in the next decade. It also describes the status of SNG processes intended for peak load and base load applications. The paper is presented in two parts - (1) the era of natural gas, and (2) the era of substitute natural gas (return to manufactured gas).
