A description is given of some of the testing and manufacturing problems associated with the field introduction of an 11 GHz 3. 5/3. 0 watt IMPATT amplifier. The amplifier is the transmitter amplifier in an FM radio relay system which operates in the frequency range of 10. 7 to 11. 7 GHz. The lower half of the band is specified at 3. 5 watts and upper half at 3. 0 watts. More than 800 amplifiers have been field installed during the last 4 years.
