Important among computer uses to improve health care is their application to automated health testing, a technique for providing effective but inexpensive preventive medical care. The computer is used to gather, organize, and store data generated by non-physicians and to produce a carefully designed standardized report to present information to physicians in the most meaningful, easiest-read format. Design considerations and the features of a specific system are presented. System design involves selection of a computer, data storage system, and standard terminals, as well as specification of programs, special terminals and interfaces, and a variety of forms.
