The refrigeration charts presented are applicable over a wide range of refrigerant condensing temperatures. Because the heat sink for propylene-refrigeration systems has traditionally been either cooling water or ambient air, one can use these charts in geographical locations where cold water may be available for the condenser, or with hot ambient air where cooling water is not available. The paper first describes how these charts have been developed and then shows how they should be used to rapidly estimate gas horsepower and condenser duty for single-stage, multistage and cascaded refrigeration systems.
