Numerical simulation of flow, temperature and thermal stress fields during twin-roll casting process

The characteristics of flow and heat transfer in twin-roll continuous-sheet casting process are clarified in this paper. Heat and fluid-flow model based on the whole system with caster drum is presented. The simulation results of the conduct of liquid steel flow in the pool show that there is a large range of circumfluent area in the pool, which acts as the mechanical agitation. This conclusion provides a theoretical foundation for twin-roll casting process to produce high quality sheet. The temperature field and alternating thermal stress field are researched through the analysis of thermal construction.
