Individual and batch switching modes for fluorescent lamps using semiconductor delayed-action starters are described. The transient voltages on the lamp being started are given a theoretical and experimental treatment. The voltage required for starting fluorescent lamps fitted with these devices and various ballasts on commercial and higher-than-normal frequencies is determined.
