Automated visual inspection techniques to detect and identify faults during the production of various glassware and various glass containers are ine investigated and experiments performed to study problems in these techniques are reported. The acquisition of suitable images for subsequent processing by a computer is introduced and various methods discussed. Some common defects in glassware are explained and methods of detection presented. A wide range of inspection tasks for the glass container industry is briefly reviewed, and the results obtained by form analysis and internal defects detection interpreted. Other application problems that are being studied are also mentioned.
