An analysis is made of the influence of amplitude distortions on the intensity distribution in the image of a diffuse object obtained in a randomly inhomogeneous medium assuming that the logarithm of the amplitude distortions is normally distributed. It is found that the distortions in this distribution depend strongly on the parameter eta equals rho //a**2 sigma **2/S ( rho //a and sigma are the correlation radius and variance of the logarithm of the amplitude distortions; S is the area of the receiver aperture) and also on the resolution of the receiving equipment. This conclusion is confirmed experimentally.
