Saturation concentrations of carbon in niobium at 1500 to 2150 C were determined by electric resistivity measurements. Maximum solubility increased from 0. 26 at. % C at 1500 C to 4. 0 at. % C at 2200 C. At all temperatures investigated, hexagonal beta -carbide Nb//2C is in equilibrium with the alpha solid solution.
