New manufacturing methods now supply permanent magnet stepper motors with improved performance and efficiency compared with previously available types. The improved motor provides greater efficiency and more torque. These improvements will make the stepper motor more important in precise position control systems. Typical applications include paper and print head positioning in typewriters and computer printers and pen control in plotters. They also will find roles in ready/write head positioning in computer floppy disk, hard disk and tape drives. Other roles will be in precise medical pumps, slot machine display control, slide projector tray positioning, tool positioning in machine tools and bar code readers.
