The essential experimental results regarding the nonstationary hydraulic and thermal processes are presented and compared with theoretical knowledge. In particular, the temperature range of up to 150 degree C, relevant for district heating, is investigated. The main emphasis of the experiments was placed on the stationary and nonstationary thermal behavior of a water/water heat exchange of medium size and the water hammer behavior of the entire system or of individual structural assemblies from the aspect of direct supply. Practical training of students by practical tests regarding the stationary and nonstationary hydraulic behavior of a district heating system with particular consideration of the operation of the pressure maintenance devices, is described.
