The integration of industrial robots into production lines to permit efficient and considerable automation of visual and dimensional test procedures is discussed. A new linked system involving an industrial robot and an image processing unit, which can be described as a robot-guided camera is introduced that is based on the robot-guided image sensor, which allows the industrial robot to guide the camera to the test location. This type of camera positioning is no less futuristic in that, through the involvement of industrial robots, it can be extended to flexible standard products.
