An investigation is carried out of a rectangular horn aperture centrally loaded with an H-plane dielectric slab. The radiation pattern associated with the dominant LSM//1//1 mode is examined theoretically and experimentally and the E-plane pattern shaping is studied in detail. Such dielectric loading results in reduced E-plane sidelobe levels and may be utilized to equalize the patterns in the two principal planes.
