Structural positions of iron and sulfur ions in oxides of the CaO-SiO2 system

From the Mossbauer spectra of glasses of wollastonite composition with additions of Fe2O3, FeS, and CaS, the structural arrangement of iron and sulfur is studied in oxide systems. It is shown that, depending upon the amount of these additions, sulfur can isomorphously substitute for oxygen ions or enter into the sulfide clusters that are formed during the decomposition of the glassy structure.
