Presents the results of measurements of the pressure field generated in air by a smooth disc rotating in a right-cylindrical enclosure, with and without a net radial outflow of air past the disc. The results show the effects of rotational speed, axial clearance between the rotating disc and the end-wall of the enclosure, and flow rate of air through the enclosure on the axial force on the rotating disc face, in a form for ready application by a designer.
