摘要
For the past 60 years or so, W. H. Allen, of Bedford, now part of NEI-A. P. E. has been building medium-speed diesel engines designed to operate on heavy fuels - residual, crude or shale-derived. Each crude oil has its own characteristics, and some have specifications which enable suitably designed engines to burn the crude without expensive treatment other than, possibly, filtration and heating. Consequently, where the oil is being moved from source to refinery by pipeline, Allen crude-burning diesel engines can be used to drive both the main pipeline pumps and electrical generators. Details of four Allen pipeline contracts are presented.
