Westinghouse Electric Corp, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have introduced the new 150 MW class, Model 501F combustion turbine, the most recent result of the companies' collaborative efforts. As a merger of the companies' experiences and technologies, the 501F is a unique entry into the 60 Hz power generation markets. It combines Westinghouse's several decades of experience in two-bearing, cold end-drive, single-shaft heavy-duty machine with the aero-engine cooling and blading technologies used on the Mitsubishi MF-111 gas turbine, and an advanced hybird combustion technology which Mitsubishi has previously demonstrated on a 701D gas turbine.
