The improvement of the properties of different types of stainless steel and of heat resisting steels and Ni- or Co-base alloys as a function of special melting and remelting processes is discussed with reference to plotted experimental data. ″Properties″ include impurity content, mechanical properties (especially toughness), corrosion resistance, hot workability, and creep strength.
