Current trends in the development of catalysis with the aid of synthetic zeolites are discussed. The developments cited include the broadening of the range of applicability of these zeolites in organic and inorganic reactions, in pyrolysis processes, as adsorbents for displacing the equilibrium of chemical conversions, and in industrial catalysis. Also discussed are the synthesis and use of catalytic systems based on zeolites of new structural types; the creation and study of polyzeolite catalysts of multifunctional action, and metal-complex zeolite catalysts; the control of the catalytic properties of various systems; and intense study of structures, the nature of active centers and the mechanism of action of zeolite catalysts.
