DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR LUMPED-ELEMENT MICROWAVE FILTERS.

Since small size is an important factor in the selection of filters for EW applications, lumped-element filters should be considered first and used whenever possible. In addition to the size advantage, they are generally lower in cost than comparable distributed designs. This paper describes major design considerations, including the calculation of Q factor of inductors in relation to frequency and dimensions, designs for Chebyshev equi-ripple and elliptic filter types and temperature stability. A brief comparison with distributed filters is included.
