Brazing of steel with brass is accompanied by the dispersion of the steel, and the mechanical properties of the joint decrease. The presence of the carbon concentration gradient between these particles and the parent metal causes, in addition to dispersion, a growth of steel grains ain teh dirextion of the diffusion flow carbon: this growth hardens the joint. the addition of nickel to the brass melt greatly increases the hardness of the growing grains and the disperse particles present in the diffusion flow of carbon.
