Heat transfer and hydraulic resistance have been investigated experimentally for spirally finned staggered (checkerboard) tube banks in transverse arrays. The empirical formulas obtained, which allow for the influence of the physical properties of the fluid, the temperature, and geometric factors, may be employed to calculate heat transfer and resistance of checkerboard-array (staggered) banks of finned tubes in transverse flows. Heat transfer for the first rows of tubes in checkerboard banks is less by 14-43% than for the deep rows.
