A system of supplying arc furnaces in electric steelmaking plants is described in which the furnace is switched on and off by a breaker in the intermediate circuit of the transformer. The principle of the system is explained together with the ways in which it differs from an arrangement with normal transformers in the intermediate circuit. The steady-state and dynamic processes in the intermediate circuit (voltages and currents) are also investigated.
